Piergorite-(Ce)

Piergorite-(Ce) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Ca₈Ce₂AlLiSi₆B₈O₃₆(OH)₂.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2/a).

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5.5–6; specific gravity 3.67; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Pgo-Ce, IMA status: approved, named in 2005.

Found in miarolitic cavities in syenitic volcanic ejectum.

It is found associated with Sanidine, mica, magnetite, rutile, titanite, other Th-U-REE bearing minerals.

An acronym from the names of two Italian collectors, Giancarlo Pierini and Pietro Gorini, who provided the material studied. A suffix indicates the dominant rare earth element.
