It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group R-3m). It is a member of the Alunite-Alunite structural group.

Key properties: specific gravity 3.64–3.67; Vitreous, silky to dull luster; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Pjrs, IMA status: approved, named in 1902.

Formed by the reaction between galena and oxidizing pyrite in lead deposits, typically in arid regions.
