Podlesnoite
Podlesnoite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the carbonate class, with the chemical formula Ca₂Ba(CO₃)₂F₂.
It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group Cmcm).
Key properties: Mohs hardness 3.5–4; specific gravity 3.62; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.
IMA symbol Pod, IMA status: approved, named in 2006.
Found in cavities within a hydrothermal lensoidal body in urtite.
It is found associated with Natrolite, biotite, ilmenite, aegirine, lorenzenite, barytocalcite, calcite, fluorite, astrophyllite, burbankite.
The mineral was named to honor Aleksandr Semenovich Podlesnyi (b. 1948), Russian amateur mineralogist and mineral collector, for his contributions to the mineralogy of the Khibiny massif.
