Polyakovite-(Ce)

Polyakovite-(Ce) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula (Ce,Ca)₄MgCr₂(Ti,Nb)₂Si₄O₂₂.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group C2/m). It is a member of the Chevkinite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5.5–6; specific gravity 4.75; Light brown streak; Vitreous luster.

IMA symbol Pak-Ce, IMA status: approved, named in 1998.

Found in a carbonatite vein cutting phlogopite-fluororichterite rock.

It is found associated with Calcite, dolomite, fluororichterite, phlogopite, forsterite, monazite-(Ce), clinohumite, chromite, thorianite.

The mineral was named to honor mineralogist Vladislav O. Polyakov (1950-1993), who began this investigation.
