Pseudolaueite

Pseudolaueite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the phosphate class, with the chemical formula Mn²⁺Fe³⁺₂(PO₄)₂(OH)₂·8H₂O.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/a). It is a member of the Stewartite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3; specific gravity 2.463; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Plae, grandfathered status — known before the IMA’s founding, named in 1956.

Occurs as incrustations and replacements of stewartite crystals in a complex zoned granite pegmatite (Hagendorf, Germany).

It is found associated with Stewartite, laueite, strunzite, triphylite, Fe–Mn oxides (Hagendorf, Germany).

Its name comes from the Greek for false and its relation to laueite, as it is not that species.
