Quadridavyne
Quadridavyne is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula [(Na,K)₆Cl₂][Ca₂Cl₂][(Si₆Al₆O₂₄)].
It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group P6_3/m). It is a member of the Cancrinite, Cancrinite-sodalite structural group.
Key properties: Mohs hardness 5; specific gravity 2.335; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically uniaxial.
IMA symbol Qdv, IMA status: approved, named in 1990.
Found in volcanic ash containing metasomatized and hydrothermally altered lavas and scoriae, from the 1906 eruption of Vesuvius.
The name comes from the Latin quad, for four, as the mineral has four times the unit cell volume of the related mineral species davyne.
