Ramazzoite
Ramazzoite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the phosphate class, with the chemical formula [Mg₈Cu₁₂(PO₄)(CO₃)₄(OH)₂₄(H₂O)₂₀][(H₀.₃₃SO₄)₃(H₂O)₃₆].
It crystallizes in the cubic crystal system (space group P-43m).
Key properties: Mohs hardness 2.5; specific gravity 1.98; Pale blue streak; Vitreous to oily luster.
IMA symbol Rmz, IMA status: approved, named in 2018.
A late-stage, secondary mineral hosted in serpentinite in contact with basalt dikes and pillow lavas. Likely crystallized from a low-temperature, aqueous solution.
It is found associated with Magnetite, chlorartinite, chrysotile, dypingite, goethite, lepidocrocite, nesquehonite, an unidentified Mg sulfate-carbonate.
The name is derived from the locality, the Monte Ramazzo mine.
