Rémondite-(Ce)
Rémondite-(Ce) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the carbonate class, with the chemical formula Na₃(Ce,Ca,Na)₃(CO₃)₅.
It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system. It is a member of the Burbankite structural group.
Key properties: Mohs hardness 3–3.5; specific gravity 3.43; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.
IMA symbol Rém-Ce, IMA status: approved, named in 1987.
Found in a nepheline syenite (Ebounja, Cameroon); in association with an intrusive alkalic gabbro-syenite complex (Mont Saint-Hilaire, Canada).
It is found associated with Burbankite, aegirine, calcite (Ebounja, Cameroon).
The mineral was named to honor Dr. Guy Rémond (1935–), physicist, Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières, Orléans, France, for his work on the physics of minerals.
