Saléeite

Saléeite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the phosphate class, with the chemical formula Mg(UO₂)₂(PO₄)₂(H₂O)₁₀.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/c).

Key properties: Mohs hardness 2–3; specific gravity 3.27; Adamantine to waxy luster; refractive index 1.57; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Slé, grandfathered status — known before the IMA’s founding, named in 1932.

Found in the oxidized zone of uranium-bearing polymetallic hydrothermal and sedimentary mineral deposits.

It is found associated with Torbernite, autunite, zeunerite, bassetite, dewindtite, sabugalite, phosphuranylite, dumontite.

In honor of Achille Salée (1883–1932), Professor of Geology, Catholic University of Louvain, Louvain, Belgium.
