Stetindite-(Ce)

Stetindite-(Ce) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Ce(SiO₄).

It crystallizes in the tetragonal crystal system (space group I4_1/amd). It is a member of the Zircon structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 4–5; specific gravity 5.03; White streak; Adamantine luster; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Std-Ce, IMA status: approved, named in 2008.

Found in cavities in massive yttrian fluorite, a product of a F-rich fluid formed via liquid immiscibility during the cooling of the pegmatite magma.

It is found associated with Hematite, hundholmenite-(Y), quartz, törnebohmite-(Ce), vyuntspakhkite-(Y), calcioancylite-(Nd), kozoite-(Nd), Nd-rich bastnåsite, allanite-(Ce).

The name is derived from the locality, Stetind, that produced the studied material. The suffix identifies the dominant rare earth element.
