Strontiochevkinite
Strontiochevkinite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula (Sr,Ce,La)₄Fe²⁺(Ti,Zr)₄O₈(Si₂O₇)₂.
It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/a). It is a member of the Chevkinite structural group.
Key properties: Mohs hardness 5; specific gravity 5.44; Submetallic. Anisotropism: Strong, in shades of gray luster.
IMA symbol Scvk, IMA status: approved, named in 1983.
Found in the more mafic bands of fenite dikes formed radially around carbonatite plugs.
It is found associated with Sanidine, aegirine, nepheline, hematite, zeolites, strontian loparite, lamprophyllite.
The name refers to the strontium content and relation to chevkinite.
