Strontiohurlbutite

Strontiohurlbutite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the phosphate class, with the chemical formula SrBe₂(PO₄)₂.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/a). It is a member of the Danburite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 6; specific gravity 3.101; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Shrb, IMA status: approved, named in 2012.

Found in a highly-evolved zoned pegmatite, likely from reactions between late hydrothermal fluids and primary beryl.

It is found associated with Quartz, muscovite, beryl, hurlbutite, hydroxylherderite, apatite-group minerals, phenakite.

As a strontium-dominant analog of hurlbutite.
