Tetrahedrite-(Hg)

Tetrahedrite-(Hg) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the sulfosalt class, with the chemical formula Cu₆(Cu₄Hg₂)Sb₄S₁₃.

It crystallizes in the cubic crystal system (space group I-43m). It is a member of the Tetrahedrite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3.5–4; specific gravity 5.326; Black streak; Metallic luster.

IMA symbol Ttr-Hg, IMA status: approved, named in 2019.

Found in metamorphosed (greenschist facies) pyrite ± baryte ± iron-oxide deposits.

It is found associated with Cinnabar, chalcostibite in dolomite veins (Buca della Vena); baryte, chalcopyrite in quartz-siderite-dolomite veins (Jedová hora).

The (Hg)-suffix indicates the mercury analog of tetrahedrite-(Zn) and tetrahedrite-(Cu).
