Uedaite-(Ce)

Uedaite-(Ce) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Mn²⁺CeAl₂Fe²⁺(Si₂O₇)(SiO₄)O(OH).

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/m). It is a member of the Epidote structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5–6; specific gravity 4.19; Gray streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Ued-Ce, IMA status: approved, named in 2006.

An accessory mineral in granite.

It is found associated with Allanite-(Ce), monazite-(Ce), zircon, thorite, bastnaesite-(Ce).

The mineral was named to honor Tateo Ueda (1912–2000), who was the first to solve the crystal structure of allanite.
