Vonbezingite

Vonbezingite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the sulfate class, with the chemical formula Ca₆Cu₃(SO₄)₃(OH)₁₂·2H₂O.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/c).

Key properties: Mohs hardness 4; specific gravity 2.82; Pale blue streak; Vitreous on fractures, subvitreous on crystal faces luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Vbz, IMA status: approved, named in 1991.

A very rare mineral developed during a period of evaporation of surface or ground waters at ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure.

It is found associated with Barite, azurite, sturmanite, calcite, gypsum, bultfonteinite.

The mineral was named to honor Karl-Ludwig von Bezing (1945–), Austrian-South African mineral collector, for his contributions to knowledge of mineralogy of the Kalahari manganese field.
