Whiteite-(MnMnMn)

Whiteite-(MnMnMn) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the phosphate class, with the chemical formula Mn²⁺Mn²⁺Mn²⁺₂Al₂(PO₄)₄(OH)₂·8H₂O.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2/a). It is a member of the Jahnsite structural group.

Key properties: specific gravity 2.82; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Wt-MnMnMn, IMA status: approved, named in 2021.

Found in tertiary phosphate mineralisation formed in cavities left behind by leached primary fluorapatite, in partially oxidized pegmatite.

It is found associated with Eosphorite, hureaulite, fairfieldite, mangangordonite, whiteite-(CaMnMn), jasonsmithite.

Base name whiteite indicates a member of the jahniste supergroup with M3 = Al3+ and a suffix with the dominant cation in the X, M1 and M2 site respectively.
