Yedlinite

Yedlinite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the halide class, with the chemical formula Pb₆Cr(Cl,OH)₆(OH,O)₈.

It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group R-3).

Key properties: Mohs hardness 2.5; specific gravity 5.85; White streak; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Yed, IMA status: approved, named in 1974.

A very rare late-stage secondary mineral in an oxidized polymetallic hydrothermal ore deposit.

It is found associated with Diaboleite, phosgenite, matlockite, wherryite, wulfenite, dioptase, cerussite, mimetite, willemite, hemimorphite, fluorite, quartz.

The mineral was named to honor Leo Neal Yedlin (1908–1977), American mineral collector of microscopic specimens, of New Haven, Connecticut, USA, who first noted the mineral.
