Zincolivenite

The zinc-bearing member of the olivenite group — green-blue copper-zinc arsenate crusts.

Intro adapted from Wikipedia (CC BY-SA).

Zincolivenite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the arsenate class, with the chemical formula CuZn(AsO₄)(OH).

It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group Pnnm). It is a member of the Andalusite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3.5; specific gravity 4.34; White streak; Vitreous luster; refractive index 1.888; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Zoli, IMA status: approved, named in 2006.

Secondary in weathered tennantite deposits.

It is found associated with Jarosite, conichalcite, alumopharmacosiderite, arseniosiderite, scorodite, ‘limonite’ (Lavrion); azurite, tyrolite (Dolyhir quarry); philipsburgite.

The prefix identifies the zinc-dominant analogue of olivenite. Formerly ‘cuproadamite’.
