It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group P6_3/mcm).

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3; specific gravity 2.25; White streak; Vitreous to greasy luster; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Akmy, IMA status: approved, named in 2015.

Found in peralkaline pegmatite in an alkaline igneous complex.

It is found associated with Villiaumite, natrite, potassic feldspar, pectolite, sodalite, biotite, lamprophyllite, titanite, fluorapatite, wadeite, burbankite, rasvumite, djerfisherite.

The mineral was named to honor Russian mineralogist Alexander Petrovich Khomyakov (1933-2012), a specialist in the mineralogy of alkaline rocks, of the Khibiny and Lovozero alkaline complexes.
