Arsenoflorencite-(La)

Arsenoflorencite-(La) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the arsenate class, with the chemical formula LaAl₃(AsO₄)₂(OH)₆.

It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group R-3m). It is a member of the Alunite-crandallite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3.5; specific gravity 4.15; Very pale pink streak; Vitreous luster; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Aflo-La, IMA status: approved, named in 2009.

Occurs as zones within crystals of florencite-(Ce) and zoned crystals with ‘‘arsenoflorencite- (Nd)’’ and crandallite, in Mn-rich nodules in metasediments.

It is found associated with Zircon, quartz, hematite, ardennite-(As), andalusite, sillimanite, anorthite, sericite, clinochlore, chernovite-(Y), monazite-gasparite group minerals.

The name refers to the La-dominant analog of arsenoflorencite-(Ce).
