Arsenohopeite

Arsenohopeite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the arsenate class, with the chemical formula Zn₃(AsO₄)₂·4H₂O.

It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group Pnma). It is a member of the Hopeite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3; specific gravity 3.42; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Ahop, IMA status: approved, named in 2010.

A rare secondary mineral produced through alteration of tennantite-rich ore in the oxidized zone of a dolostone-hosted, polymetallic, hydrothermal ore deposit.

It is found associated with Köttigite, adamite, leiteite, schneiderhöhnite.

The name refers to the relationship to hopeite [Zn3(PO4)2·4H2O], as its arsenate analogue.
