Arsenuranylite

Arsenuranylite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the arsenate class, with the chemical formula Ca(UO₂)₄(AsO₄)₂(OH)₄·6H₂O.

It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group Bmmb). It is a member of the Phosphuranylite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 2–3; specific gravity 4.25; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Auy, grandfathered status — known before the IMA’s founding, named in 1958.

Found in the oxidized zone of a uranium deposit containing arsenic-bearing sulfides (Cherkasar deposit, Uzbekistan).

It is found associated with Paraschoepite, schoepite, metazeunerite, nováčekite, uranospinite (Cherkasar deposit, Uzbekistan).

The name refers to ARSENic and URANium in its composition and probable relation to phosphuranylite.
