Bazirite

Bazirite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula BaZrSi₃O₉.

It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group P-6c2). It is a member of the Benitoite structural group.

Key properties: specific gravity 3.82; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Bzr, IMA status: approved, named in 1976.

A late-stage interstitial mineral in aegirine-riebeckite granite (Rockall Island, Scotland); in granular celsian-bearing rocks near contacts with granite (Big Creek, California, USA).

It is found associated with Elpidite, aegirine, albite, cristobalite, leucophosphite, monazite, quartz, apatite, eudialyte, magnetite, pyrochlore, xenotime, barite.
