Bussenite

Bussenite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Ba₄(Na,   )₂(Fe²⁺,Na)₂Ti₂(Si₂O₇)₂(CO₃)₂O₂(OH)₂(H₂O)₂F₂.

It crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system (space group P1). It is a member of the Seidozerite-Bafertisite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 4; specific gravity 3.63; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Bus, IMA status: approved, named in 2000.

Found in a sodalite-natrolite-calcite veinlet that cuts urtite in an alkaline massif.

It is found associated with Natrolite, sodalite, aegirine, biotite, vinogradovite, titanite, eudialyte, calcite, barytocalcite, fluorapatite, fluorite, djerfisherite, molybdenite.

The mineral was named to honor Russian petrologist Irina V. Bussen (b. 1915), specialist in the petrology and mineralogy of the Khibiny-Lovozero alkaline complex.
