Bussyite-(Ce)

Bussyite-(Ce) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula (Ce,REE)₃(Na,H₂O)₆MnSi₉Be₅(O,OH)₃₀F₄.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group C2/c). It is a member of the Bussyite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 4; specific gravity 3; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Bsy-Ce, IMA status: approved, named in 2007.

A late-stage hydrothermal mineral in association with a nepheline syenite-hosted pegmatite.

It is found associated with Serandite, aegirine, albite, analcime, ancylite-(Ce), calcite, catapleiite, gonnardite, kupletskite, leucophanite, microcline, nenadkevichite, polylithionite.

The mineral was named to honor Antoine Alexandre Brutus Bussy (1794-1882), co-discoverer of beryllium.
