Bussyite-(Y)

Bussyite-(Y) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula (Y,REE,Ca)₃(Na,Ca)₆MnSi₉Be₅(O,F,OH)₃₄.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group C2). It is a member of the Bussyite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 4; specific gravity 3.11; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Bsy-Y, IMA status: approved, named in 2014.

A late-stage hydrothermal product in alkaline pegmatite.

It is found associated with Analcime, microcline, sérandite, calcite, cappelenite-(Y), catapleiite, charmarite-2H and -3T, fluorite, helvine, kupletskite, perraultite, tainiolite.

The Y analog of bussyite-(Ce), which honors the French chemist and pharmacist Antoine Alexandre Brutus Bussy (1794-1882) who prepared magnesium and isolated the element beryllium.
