Calciocatapleiite

Calciocatapleiite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula CaZrSi₃O₉·2H₂O.

It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group Pbnn). It is a member of the Catapleiite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 4.5–5; specific gravity 2.77; Vitreous to dull luster; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Cctp, IMA status: approved, named in 1964.

Found in cavities between crystals of microcline, in syenite pegmatites of a differentiated alkalic massif.

It is found associated with Pyrophanite, pyrochlore, titanian låvenite, loparite-(Ce), kupletskite, RE-apatite, hiortdahlite, calcian seidozerite, leucophane, microcline.

The name refers to its calcium content and close relation to catapleiite. The change from the original name conforms to International Mineralogical Association guidelines.
