Cavoite
Cavoite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the vanadate class, with the chemical formula CaV₃O₇.
It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group Pnam).
Key properties: specific gravity 3.51; Near white streak; Vitreous luster.
IMA symbol Cvo, IMA status: approved, named in 2001.
Developed by tectono-metamorphic re-equilibration under prehnite-pumpellyite facies conditions in manganese deposits (braunite-bearing layers within hematite-rich cherts) near the bottom of chert sequences overlaying ophiolites.
It is found associated with Caryopilite, calcian rhodochrosite, quartz.
Alludes to the essential chemical elements in the composition, CAlcium, Vanadium, Oxygen.
