Chukhrovite-(Ca)

Chukhrovite-(Ca) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the sulfate class, with the chemical formula Ca₃Ca₁.₅Al₂(SO₄)F₁₃·12H₂O.

It crystallizes in the cubic crystal system (space group Fd3). It is a member of the Chukhrovite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3.5; specific gravity 2.23; White streak; Vitreous luster.

IMA symbol Chk-Ca, IMA status: approved, named in 2010.

From low-temperature hydrothermal crystallization on the surfaces of fractures crosscutting a vein of marcasite and REE-bearing fluorite.

It is found associated with Marcasite, REE-bearing fluorite, gypsum, hydrated Fe oxides, galena, sphalerite.

The name refers to the Ca-dominant species of the chukhrovite mineral group.
