Correianevesite specimen

Correianevesite is very rare new mineral, approved on 2013 (IMA 2013-007), and only found in two localities worldwide, but being this one in Minas Gerais the best one, by far (Cigana (Jocão), Galiléia, Minas Gerais, Brazil). Correianevesite

Correianevesite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the phosphate class, with the chemical formula Fe²⁺Mn²⁺₂(PO₄)₂·3H₂O.

It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group Pbna). It is a member of the Reddingite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3.5; specific gravity 3.25; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Corr, IMA status: approved, named in 2013.

Found in cavities in triphylite in a well-zoned, phosphate-rich granite pegmatite.

It is found associated with Triphylite, lithiophilite, frondelite, rockbridgeite, eosphorite, vivianite, fairfieldite, leucophosphite, cyrilovite, phosphosiderite, hureaulite.

The mineral was named to honor Professor José Marques Correia Neves (1929-2011), Geosciences Institute, Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, for his study of Brazilian pegmatites.
