Davidbrownite-(NH4)

Davidbrownite-(NH4) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the organic mineral class, with the chemical formula (NH₄)₅(V⁴⁺O)₂(C₂O₄)[PO₂.₇₅(OH)₁.₂₅]₄·3H₂O.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/c). It is a member of the Not in a structural group, Oxalate structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 2; specific gravity 2.12; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Dbn-NH4, IMA status: approved, named in 2019.

Found in a bat-guano-related, post-mining assemblage in a hot and humid area of the mine.

It is found associated with Antipinite, fluorite, mimetite, mottramite, quartz, rowleyite, salammoniac, struvite, vanadinite, willemite, wulfenite.

The mineral was named to honor British-Canadian crystallographer Dr. I. David Brown (b. 1932) for developing Bond-Valence Theory.
