Emmerichite

Emmerichite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Ba₂Ti₂Na₃Fe³⁺(Si₂O₇)₂O₂F₂.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group C2/m). It is a member of the Seidozerite-Lamprophyllite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3–4; specific gravity 3.864; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Emr, IMA status: approved, named in 2013.

A high-temperature pneumatolitic mineral in cavities within alkaline basalt.

It is found associated with Nepheline, leucite, augite, phlogopite, fluorapatite, götzenite, åkermanite, günterblassite, magnetite, perovskite.

The mineral was named to honor Franz-Josef Emmerich (b. 1940), German amateur mineralogist and collector of minerals from the Eifel region.
