It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group R-3m).

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3; specific gravity 4.53; Black streak; Metallic to submetallic luster.

IMA symbol Erz, IMA status: approved, named in 2014.

Found in a high-sulfidation, epithermal vein deposit rich in gold, copper, and arsenic, with a strong influence of meteoric waters and hosted in volcanic rocks.

It is found associated with Barite alunite, jarosite, olivenite, scorodite, chalcopyrite, Sb- and Se-rich bismuthinite, goldfieldite, enargite, covellite, tennantite.

The mineral was named to honor Gabriel Erazo Fernández (b. 1943) a mining engineer and mineralogist. He was professor of geology, crystallography, and metallurgy at Copiapo University, Chile.
