Ferrotitanowodginite

Ferrotitanowodginite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the oxides & hydroxide class, with the chemical formula Fe²⁺TiTa₂O₈.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group C2/c). It is a member of the Wodginite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5.5; specific gravity 7.368; Dark brown streak; Submetallic luster.

IMA symbol Ftwdg, IMA status: approved, named in 1998.

Found in complex rare-element pegmatite in locally tourmalinized quartz-mica schist of medium metamorphic grade.

It is found associated with Ferrowodginite, ferrotapiolite, cleavelandite, quartz (San Elías); wodginite, ferrowodginite, titanowodginite, ferrotapiolite, muscovite, quartz (La Viquita).

Prefixes, ferro indicates Fe2+-dominant in the A site and titano indicates Ti-dominant in the B site in a member of the wodginite group.
