Fluorbritholite-(Y)

Fluorbritholite-(Y) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula (Y,Ca)₅(SiO₄)₃F.

It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group P6_3/m). It is a member of the Apatite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5.5; specific gravity 4.609; Pale brown to almost white streak; Vitreous to greasy; resinous [metamict] luster; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Fbri-Y, IMA status: approved, named in 2009.

Found in pegmatite cutting alkaline granite.

It is found associated with Y-bearing fluorite, allanite-(Ce), quartz, aluminocerite-(Ce), bastnäsite-(Ce), britholite-(Y), gadolinite-(Y), hundholmenite-(Y).

As the fluorine-dominant analogue of britholite-(Y).
