Korobitsynite

Korobitsynite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula (Na,   )₄Ti₂(Si₄O₁₂)(O,OH)₂·4H₂O.

It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group Pbam). It is a member of the Labuntsovite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5; specific gravity 2.72; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Kbi, IMA status: approved, named in 1998.

Found in miarolitic cavities in pegmatite.

It is found associated with At Mt. Alluaiv: albite, aegirine, shortite, rhodochrosite, epididymite, leifite, tainiolite, pyrrhotite, thermonatrite, nahpoite, amorphous bitumen; or albite.

The name refers to amateur mineralogist Mikhail Fyodorovich Korobitsyn (1928-1996), for significant contributions to the mineralogy of the Lovozero massif.
