Laptevite-(Ce)

Laptevite-(Ce) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula NaFe²⁺(REE₇Ca₅Y₃)(SiO₄)₄(Si₃B₂PO₁₈)(BO₃)F₁₁.

It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group R3m).

Key properties: Mohs hardness 4–4.5; specific gravity 4.61; Vitreous to greasy luster; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Lpt-Ce, IMA status: approved, named in 2011.

A mineral of hydrothermal origin, discovered in a glacial moraine boulder of calcite- bafertisite-aegirine-microcline rock.

It is found associated with Quartz, fluorite, polylithionite, albite, and intergrown with bafertisite, “calcy- beborosilite-(Y)”, stillwellite-(Ce).

The mineral was named to honor Tatyana Mikhailovna Lapteva (1928-2011), a Russian geologist and petrologist who worked on the geology of Central Asia.
