Lemmleinite-Ba

Lemmleinite-Ba is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Na₄K₄Ba₂₊ₓTi₈(Si₄O₁₂)₄(OH,O)₈·8H₂O.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group C2/m). It is a member of the Labuntsovite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5.5; specific gravity 3.03; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Lem-Ba, IMA status: approved, named in 1998.

Found in alkaline pegmatites in an alkaline massif.

It is found associated with Calcite, strontianite, aegirine, microcline, nepheline (Mt. Kukisvumchorr); kuzmenkoite-Mn, aegirine, mangan-neptunite, chabazite, nontronite (Mt. Karnasuгt).

Suffix, Ba, refers to the barium-dominance in the D site of a member of the lemmleinite subgroup.
