Lemmleinite-K

Lemmleinite-K is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Na₄K₈Ti₈(Si₄O₁₂)₄(OH,O)₈·8H₂O.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group C2/m). It is a member of the Labuntsovite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5; specific gravity 2.8; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Lem-K, IMA status: approved, named in 1997.

Found in ultra-agpaitic pegmatites in apatite-nepheline in an alkaline massif.

It is found associated with Sodalite, natrolite, aegirine, K-feldspar, pectolite, alkali amphibole, lamprophyllite, lomonosovite, sphalerite, sitinakite, catapleiite, rhabdophane-(Ce).

The mineral was named to honor Georgy Glebovich Lemmlein (1901-1962), Russian mineralogist and crystallographer, the suffix, K, indicates the dominant cation in B site.
