Lepkhenelmite-Zn

Lepkhenelmite-Zn is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Ba₂Zn(Ti,Nb)₄(Si₄O₁₂)₂(O,OH)₄·7H₂O.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group Cm). It is a member of the Labuntsovite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5; specific gravity 2.96; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Lpn-Zn, IMA status: approved, named in 2003.

A late-stage hydrothermal mineral in a complex granitic (eudialite, agerine, feldspar) pegmatite.

It is found associated with Lamprophyllite, eudialyte, tsepinite-Na, kuzmenkoite-Zn, paratsepinite-Ba.

The name refers to the locality from which the first specimens were obtained and the dominant element in the D structural site, Zn.
