Metaschoderite

Metaschoderite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the phosphate class, with the chemical formula Al(PO₄)·3H₂O.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2/m).

Key properties: Mohs hardness 2; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Msdr, IMA status: approved, named in 1962.

Typically a dehydration product of schoderite.

It is found associated with Schoderite, wavellite, vashegyite (Fish Creek, Nevada, USA); metahewettite, schoderite, bokite, minyulite, leucophosphite (Cockalorum Wash, Nevada, USA).

The prefix meta- denotes the dehydration product of schoderite.
