Neskevaaraite-Fe

Neskevaaraite-Fe is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula NaK₃Fe(Ti,Nb)₄(Si₄O₁₂)₂(O,OH)₄·6H₂O.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group Cm). It is a member of the Labuntsovite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5; specific gravity 2.88; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Nsv-Fe, IMA status: approved, named in 2002.

Found in alkaline igneous rocks sometimes intergrown with labuntsovite-Fe or in hydrothermally altered carbonatite veins.

It is found associated with Dolomite, calcite, phlogopite, fluorapatite, pyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, serpentine, nenadkevichite (Neskevaara Hill); calcite, labuntsovite-Fe.

The name is derived from the locality (Neskevaara Hill) and Fe-dominant composition of the D structural site.
