Nickeltsumcorite specimen

Nickeltsumcorite is a very rare new mineral species (IMA 2013-117), this is the nickel analogue of tsumcorite and cobalttsumcorite. It occurs as yellow microcrystals lining a small vug, with some very nice apple green annabergite crystals. Nickeltsumcorite has only been found in two localities worldwide, this one is from the type locality: Km-3 Mine, Lavrion, Attiki Prefecture, Greece. — Photo: David Hospital · CC BY-SA 4.0

Nickeltsumcorite

Nickeltsumcorite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the arsenate class, with the chemical formula Pb(Ni,Fe³⁺)₂(AsO₄)₂(H₂O,OH)₂.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group C2/m). It is a member of the Natrochalcite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 4; specific gravity 5.02; Yellow streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Ntsm, IMA status: approved, named in 2013.

Found as a secondary mineral in the oxidized zone of a hydrothermal deposit containing gersdorffite and galena.

It is found associated with Annabergite, nickellotharmeyerite, nickelaustinite, gaspéite, a Ni-dominant serpentine group member (presumably pecoraite), calcite, dolomite, aragonite.

The Ni-dominant analog of tsumcorite.
