Nickeltyrrellite
Nickeltyrrellite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the sulfide class, with the chemical formula CuNi₂Se₄.
It crystallizes in the cubic crystal system (space group Fd3m). It is a member of the Spinel structural group.
Key properties: specific gravity 7.36; Black streak; Metallic luster.
IMA symbol Nty, IMA status: approved, named in 2019.
Occurs as fracture fillings in krut’aite-penroseite by oxidizing, low-T, Cu-Ni-Co-Pb-bearing fluids altering quijarroite-hansblockite-watkinsonite-clausthalite-penroseite aggregates.
It is found associated with Cerromojonite, klockmannite, clausthalite, penroseite.
The prefix identifies the Ni-analogue of tyrrellite.
