Piemontite-(Pb)

Piemontite-(Pb) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula CaPb(Al₂Mn³⁺)[Si₂O₇][SiO₄]O(OH).

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/m). It is a member of the Clinozoisite, Epidote structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 6; specific gravity 4.282; Pink streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Pmt-Pb, IMA status: approved, named in 2011.

From the Precambrian “Mixed Series” of metamorphic and igneous rocks in the central part of the Pelagonian massif.

It is found associated with Barite, dolomite, calcite, hematite, cymrite, Zn- and Mn-bearing phlogopite, intermediate members of epidote-(Pb)–epidote–piemontite series, hedyphane.

As a lead (Pb) dominant member of the epidote group.
