Radekškodaite-(La)
Radekškodaite-(La) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula (CaLa₅)(Al₄Fe²⁺)[Si₂O₇][SiO₄]₅O(OH)₃.
It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/m). It is a member of the Radekškodaite structural group.
Key properties: Mohs hardness 6.5; specific gravity 4.644; Brown streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.
IMA symbol Ršk-La, IMA status: approved, named in 2018.
Found in polymineralic nodules at the Mochalin Log REE deposit, typically intergrown with ferriperbøeite-(La).
It is found associated with Allanite-(Ce), allanite-(La), bastnäsite-(Ce), bastnäsite-(La), ferriallanite-(Ce), ferriallanite-(La), ferriperbøeite-(La), fluorbritholite-(Ce).
The mineral was named to honor Czech mineralogist Radek Škoda (b. 1979), Associate Professor at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. The suffix indicates the dominant rare earth element.
