Rimkorolgite

Rimkorolgite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the phosphate class, with the chemical formula BaMg₅(PO₄)₄·8H₂O.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/c).

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3; specific gravity 2.67; White streak; Vitreous, silky in aggregates luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Rolg, IMA status: approved, named in 1990.

Found in cavities in dolomitic carbonatites cutting jacupirangite and forsterite-magnetite iron ores in a differentiated alkalic massif.

It is found associated with Collinsite, bobierrite, carbonate-fluorapatite, strontiowhitlockite, pyrite.

The mineral was named to honor Professor Ol’ga Mikhailonova Rimskaya-Korsakova [RIMskaya-KORsakova, OLGa] (1914–1987), mineralogist, St. Petersburg University, St. Petersburg, Russia.
