Roscherite

Roscherite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the phosphate class, with the chemical formula Ca₂Mn²⁺₅Be₄(PO₄)₆(OH)₄·6H₂O.

It crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system (space group C-1). It is a member of the Roscherite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 4.5; specific gravity 2.9–2.97; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Rsc, grandfathered status — known before the IMA’s founding, named in 1914.

Found in cavities in granite or complex zoned granite pegmatites.

It is found associated with Morinite, lacroixite, eosphorite, apatite, tourmaline (Greifensteine, Germany); frondelite, faheyite, beryl, muscovite, quartz (Sapucaia mine, Brazil).

The mineral was named to honor Walter Roscher, mineral collector, Ehrenfriedersdorf, Germany.
