Sahlinite

Sahlinite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the arsenate class, with the chemical formula Pb₁₄O₉(AsO₄)₂Cl₄.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group C2/c).

Key properties: Mohs hardness 2–3; specific gravity 7.38–8; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Sah, grandfathered status — known before the IMA’s founding, named in 1934.

Found in a metamorphosed Fe-Mn orebody (Långban, Sweden); in layered hausmannite- barite ore (Kombat mine, Namibia).

It is found associated with Hausmannite, manganhumite, forsterite, dolomite (Långban, Sweden); copper, jacobsite, hausmannite, baryte (Kombat mine, Namibia).

The mineral was named to honor Dr. Carl Sahlin (1861-1943), General Manager of the iron works at Laxå, Sweden.
