Swartzite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the carbonate class, with the chemical formula CaMg(UO₂)(CO₃)₃·12H₂O.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/m).

Key properties: specific gravity 2.3; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Swz, grandfathered status — known before the IMA’s founding, named in 1951.

Found as a secondary mineral in oxidized portions of a polymetallic sulfide deposit, the source of uranium undetermined.

It is found associated with Gypsum, schröckingerite, andersonite, bayleyite (Hillside mine, Arizona, USA).
